Maybe we can add here that the whole incident is also testimony to the troubled relationship of the Serbian regime to the Partisan symbolism of Nikola Dobrović's design for the building. Although the people currently holding power sometimes like to claim the Yugoslav legacy of the state for themselves and market it abroad, they are also the political and intellectual successors of the people the Partisans were fighting against at Sutjeska. This makes it a little bit tough for them to use the damaged building to sell their image of victimhood, and maybe it makes them a little bit happy to let young slumlord Jared turn it into some kind of šatro glitz palace.
